Westport police were notified of the thefts around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when they received multiple reports of thefts from the boys locker room, said Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso.
Responding officers met with several victims who reported that personal items including a backpack, electronics, and cash had been stolen, Prezioso said.
It was determined that all of the stolen items had been taken within a brief timeframe. An investigation, including a review of surveillance video taken from the hallways of the school, led police to Artay Drinks, of Ansonia, as a suspect.
It was learned that Drinks had apparently come to the school reporting that he was seeking to speak to the athletic director about a coaching job, police said.
During that conversation, Drinks had allegedly identified himself and provided a cell phone number. Drinks was captured on camera leaving the locker room area carrying some of the items reported as stolen.
Arrest warrants were granted for Drinks and police had been on the lookout for him since the incident.
On Monday, Nov. 4, the Westport Police Department was contacted by the Waterbury Police Department reporting that Drinks was currently in custody in connection with the active arrest warrants.
Westport officers responded to the Waterbury Police Department and transported Drinks back to Westport Police headquarters for processing.
He was charged with larceny, two counts larceny fourth-degree, and larceny sixth-degree.
Drinks is being held on totaled $6,500 bond.
